Joining Year 7
Joining Year 7 at The City School is a very exciting time, meeting new classmates, new teachers and being introduced to new subjects. One of the most interesting subjects in Y7 at City is “City Competence Curriculum” or “CCC”. The current Year 8’s were the first year group to study this subject and found it extremely interesting and worthwhile. As well as gaining subject knowledge about History, Geography and RE they also studied how to become better learners and how to apply learning skills.
CCC lessons are not just based in the classroom, each pupil had the opportunity to visit and complete work at the nature reserve near the school called Shirebrook Valley. At Shirebrook Valley pupils learned about how the reserve was created from an old sewage works and about the role it now plays within our community. Pupils also completed conservation work making the environment more pleasant and planted seeds to ensure that the reserve continues to develop.
Towards the end of the school year the whole year group took part in a sponsored walk around Shirebrook Valley and raised over £500. This money funded a City School Wildflower Garden that was planted by our pupils and along with a City School plaque should be there for many years to come.
